My family had eaten at Acropolis since they had been in East Ridge so many years ago. I have always enjoyed their food, in particular the Greek spaghetti. It is very simple but very good. We have not been back in quite awhile after an incident where a waitress dropped a coke from up high on her tray right on my wife's head. This left a welt on her head, covered her remaining food in coke and ended up spilling mostly in our new diaper bag with a number of expensive items ruined. We also lost a disposable camera that had birth photos of our new baby. The owner's wife was entertaining friends and walked by several times but never offered assistance or an apology. The waitress apologized but they never offered anything other than a towel. At least I would have expected them to offer to replace her meal or something but they didn't much seem to care. I am not one to beg for someone to do the right thing. After waiting several minutes to see what they were going to do, my wife just wanted the check so we could go home and she could get cleaned up and get an ice pack for her head. We eat out 2-3 times weekly and have removed them from our dining rotation list. With 6 people our average ticket would be somewhere around $100+. |

Reply with quote | #3 | I hate that you had the experience you did. I ate there for the first time in May '08. I was pleased with my fish...I might ask for it to not be cooked medium well but, medium instead it was a tad dry.......but, that could have been my fault. I had never had anyone ask how I wanted my fish cooked before.
I also got a slice-----------talk about a slice------------of Peanut butter french silk pie. I was in heaven!!!!! It made 3 desserts for me the piece was huge!!
It was nice to see the family that owns it come to your table to ask you how your dinner is.

Reply with quote | #4 | Welcome, Dreamwebber, nice to "see" you again!
I always order my fish medium rare and it's usually moist and just right. Some servers don't know to ask about that, but they should. |

Reply with quote | #5 | I think this is one of those places that want to pare down their menu. I've noticed over the years that the menu is getting larger and larger but the quality isn't staying the same. I get the feeling that in trying to offer more dishes, the chef is compromising a bit. I've never had bad food but more and more it tastes like the food is prepackaged stuff.
Of course, none of this applies to the selection of sweets. The more the merrier! |

Reply with quote | #6 | The fried cheese there is the most overrated food item of all time! I'd heard about this for years and finally tried it. Huge disappointment.

Reply with quote | #7 | If I had to choose one Chattanooga restaurant to eat at for the rest of my life, this would be the one. It's not to say that everything I've ever had there has been cooked to perfection, but it has so much variety in flavors and choices, I don't think I would tire of it. Try the pork chops with apple glaze or coffee (I know it sounds odd, but it's very good), and the Greek salad is the best in town because the dressing is good and garlicky. Their orzo salad (like a pasta salad) is excellent, and the lentil soup is not to be missed. When they get very busy the service can be a little slow, but usually the service is excellent. Ooopa! |

Reply with quote | #8 | Been there with friends several times...they seem to love it...but if I go to a greek place, I want greek food...not americanized greek food. And I agree with the service, it's not very good. The desserts are wonderful, though, as someone else mentioned earlier. |

Reply with quote | #9 | Love the fish in lemon sauce and the fresh strawberry cake. Was very disappointed with the fried chicken tenders and the chicken strips that were on a salad. A few other items were ok. DH and I like to go there for the lemon chicken soup when either of us has a cold, and I always enjoy a cup of coffee and a sweet after a meal there. Could do without hearing the same stories from the owner each visit. |

We went there for the first time for my mom's birthday and there is no way we will ever go back. The food was not horrible but almost. The shrimp scampi was a total of 6 rubbery shrimp swimming in congealed butter, the chicken parmigana had no flavor, the mashed potatos were cold, the fish also had no flavor. Our waiter never came back to check on us. It was a first and last visit for us. |

Reply with quote | #11 | We ate there Sunday and had no problems with food or service. Wayne says they have one of the best hamburger steaks in town. I had the chicken pot pie, which was small, but good. Our server was very attentive, but not intrusive.

Reply with quote | #12 | Acropolis is among the worst dining experiences in Chattanooga. The vegetables come out of a can, and the "Greek" salad is nothing more than brown wilted iceberg lettuce. We have eaten there with family on several occasions, bu we would never choose to go there. Chattanooga needs a good Greek resaurant.

Reply with quote | #13 | I usually love The Acropolis, but the last time we went around Christmas, our portions were so SMALL. It was quite disappointing to pay $10 for what I thought was a stuffed eggplant roll to get...one tiny roll with maybe a quarter cup of filling. |
