This is a restaurant that we quickly decided on while at Hamilton Place Mall one day.  We were hungry, it was there, a new place, so we went in.  Great service, and very great food!  We were pleasantly surprised.  Cute atmosphere.  We will go there again!

American Cafe's menu includes a selection of "pasta pies," which combine pasta, cheeses, and other ingredients in a baked dish.  These are all tasty.  They also offer orange spice tea, which is delicious.

I love this place solely because they have mozzarella STARS rather than sticks, and they are probably the best I have ever tasted. I honestly cannot remember ever ordering anything but that in all the times my friends and I have chosen this place for meeting up. In fact, last night when my friend suggested Hamilton Place for lunch, my mind went straight to OH, AMERICAN CAFE!! I also decided to try their chicken tortilla soup today, and it wasn't bad. It could have been spicier though, I didn't see any jalapeno in there at all.

We ate at the American Cafe last night for the first time. We had some Christmas shopping to do at the mall and it was convenient, so we decided to give it a shot. it was for the most part good, with a few minor gliches.....
We were seated immediately and the hostess was very friendly, but very pushy about "Burger Mondays". She REALLY wanted us to take advantage of their $4.99 burger meal (any burger off the menu, fries and drink). It did sound like a good deal, but we were not in the mood for burgers! She finally relinquished the menus and we were able to order.  Our server was a nice enough kid, just seemed like he would rather have been somewhere else....not very attentive or quick on drink refills, but hostess lady, who was really working for her $$, took care of us on those.  I had the Tilapia Bruschetta which came with a side "baby blue" salad. After one bite, I wished I had just ordered the salad as a meal - it was delicious. Lots of blue cheese and topped with fresh strawberrys. The Tilapia was a little bland, but the bruschetta on top was very tasty.  I think I can easily duplicate this recipe at home and spice up the tilapia a bit more.Hubby had the Chicken Alfredo Pasta Pie, which was huge & he said it was very good. There are several items on the menu that sounded pretty tempting, so I'm sure we will go back. If you are shopping, you can't beat the location!

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but I heard that this restaurant is a food testing restaurant for another national chain. I can't remember which one, something like Ruby Tuesday's or Grindstone Charlie's or one of those. They basically see how things sell to determine what to move to their main chain via this restaurant.
