So recently a dear, kind and lovely person gave us some ground venison. I decided to use it in a casserole for Sunday night's dinner so I put it in the microwave on defrost. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that there was a twist tie closure on the package (you know the kind with the metal wire). About 30 seconds after walking away from the microwave, I hear an "Oh, S&$T!" from the hubby and see him dive for the microwave. You guessed it - flaming venison.
Luckily, no lasting damage was done and dinner proceded as normal.

Oh, bless your heart!  Didn't even think to remind ya'll of that!  Reminds me when I was young(er) and tried to boil an egg in the microwave whilst hungover, jumped so high I smacked my shoulder on the door frame.  Mother still thinks it was funny.  those microwaves were loud back in the day.

It was totally my fault. I should have been paying attention.

I made a venison pie topped with mashed potatoes.  It turned out very well - quite tasty.

I love anything under mashed taters.  Hubby does the best garlic mashtaters & bleu cheese masttaters.

We (Mrs. Bear) used one package to make meatballs with some ground turkey. It made quite a bit, we had them as a kind of Stroganoff as well as with tomato sauce. Both ways turned out very nice. Certainly helped keep the grocery expenditure down for a week.

Haven't had ours yet.  May eat it raw if this remodelling project goes any further south.  Day 3, catastrophe 1:  an active colony of termites is living in the wall between the kitchen and the mudroom.  We are experienced enough in home improvement to expect the unexpected, but this was a new twist.  It might explain the fact that the sill plate under the door was so rotted out that the kitchen floor was about 1/2" off level.  What fun, to replace all the wood at the bottom of the walls...

Anybody know a good exterminator who will actually call you back?

I looked on Angie's List and one company (don't remember who it was) didn't call me back after they said "someone will call you right away."  The second, Jody Millard didn't even answer their phone or have VM.  I called Terminex and although their quote was ungodly expensive, I need to have it done NOW so looks like they will be our new best friends.

Glad you found them,  Our old mudroom was destroyed by them darn pests.  What a mess.  The new mudroom was built aboveground so hopefully that won't happen again.  Very expensive pests

The worst food-wise I can remember was when I was young, and (skinny) I put a pan of taters on to boil, and got a call from Lovebug to come pick her up at work, forgot them and when we got back, the house was full of smoke! Luckily it was just the pan and taters ruined, and didnt burn down the appartment! LOL
